 Step-by-Step Process for UK Study Visa Application



1. Choose the Right Visa Type

  • Most students apply for a Student Visa (Tier 4) if studying a degree-level course.
  • Short-term study visas are available for courses less than 6 months.

2. Check Eligibility

  • Must have an unconditional offer from a UK institution approved by the Student Visa Sponsor list.
  • Proof of funds for tuition and living expenses.
  • English language proficiency proof (IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent).

3. Prepare Required Documents

  • Valid Passport
  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your university.
  • Financial Evidence: Bank statements showing you can support yourself (minimum £1,334/month in London or £1,023/month outside London).
  • English Language Test Results (if required).
  • Tuberculosis Test Certificate (for certain countries).
  • Academic Certificates (previous education records).

4. Apply Online

  • Visit the official UK government website: UK Visas and Immigration.
  • Complete the Student Visa application form.
  • Pay the visa application fee (£363).

5. Pay Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)

  • Covers access to healthcare services in the UK.
  • Fees: £470 per year of study.

6. Book a Biometrics Appointment

  • Visit your nearest Visa Application Centre (VAC) for biometrics (fingerprints and photo).

7. Attend the Appointment

  • Submit required documents at the VAC.

8. Wait for Decision

  • Standard processing time: 3 weeks.
  • You can track your application online.

9. Receive Your Decision and Visa

  • Once approved, your visa vignette (sticker) will be placed in your passport.
